Social Action Logo As an organization that thrives on volunteer efforts, we welcome your experience and knowledge in supporting existing Bet Aviv’s community efforts like Adopt-a-Road, Grassroots and the Soup Kitchen in Baltimore. Or if you would prefer, gather a new group to support your favorite cause -- at Bet Aviv there are sure to be others who will help. Whether you want to mentor a school child, beautify the environment, or assist in providing food for the homeless and needy, Bet Aviv has a place for you.

About our Social Action Committee

Bet Aviv’s Social Action Committee is energized and committed to making a difference in our community both locally and globally. We have set in motion more than six initiatives for the year that will make our community stronger, healthier and, overall, a better place in which to live.

On tap are a number of familiar projects and a few new ones. You’ll see upcoming announcements about our work at the “Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen”, the classic food drive during the High Holidays, Mitzvah Day, and the Group Home Relief activity. Also: this summer, Bob Hurwitz spearheaded a fund raising drive to help our brethren in Argentina. The Social Action Committee seeded the fund raiser by using a percentage of its allocated budget to match individual contributions up to a maximum total committee contribution of $500.00. The drive, now complete, was a grand success, having raised in excess of $2500.00.

We invite you to get involved with the Social Action Committee and fulfill that desire to make a difference! For additional information, please feel free to contact us.

Upcoming Social Action Events
September 2010
Please join us for our annual fall cleanup of our stretch of Old Columbia Road. It is an easy one-hour walk with good friends and a certain mitzvah during the High Holidays. Safety vests, plastic gloves and trash bags are provided. If you can help, please contact Lois Hankin.
On the third Wednesday of each month, volunteers from Bet Aviv work to help clients of the Route 1 Resource Center. There are two shifts: from 2:45pm - 4:45 pm or 4:45 pm to 7:00 pm. Activities may include managing laundry or showering facilities or assisting those in search of work by teaching computer skills. If you would like to help, contact Marcia or Barry Norian. Click on More information for directions to the Route 1 Resource Center.
October 2010
Please join us for an annual review of our current social action programs and to plan for the coming year. RSVP to Sue or Steve Sternheimer. New members welcome.
10/10 -  Our Daily Bread
Bet Aviv members will be serving food at Our Daily Bread, a food kitchen in Baltimore. We have helped at Our Daily Bread many times before and it is a most worthwhile project. You will work hard but you will feel that you really made a difference. Please contact Carol Bodin to volunteer. Click on More Information below to learn more about Our Daily Bread.
