Two holidays that Bet Aviv celebrates as a community are Passover and Sukkoth.
Passover is a Family Celebration at Bet Aviv
Each year Bet Aviv's Sisterhood organizes our community celebration of Passover with a second night Seder. This is a wonderful evening of prayer, family and food. Our own Cantor Marge conducts a short holiday service for us from the Reform Haggadah. Each table contributes the Passover symbols of our religion, wine, matzah, and the seder plate and we enjoy a catered meal in a lovely setting at the Manor House at Savage Mill. Surrounded by friends and family, we rejoice in seeing the grandkids recite the four questions and hunt for the afikomen. Each participant has the option to read a portion of the Passover story and tables compete to be "best" in reciting the stanzas of our favorite Passover poems. With a good dash of wine, family and song, a good time is had by all.
Bet Aviv Celebrates Sukkoth with Dinner Under the Stars
Traditionally, the Barth family has graciously invited members of Bet Aviv to celebrate Sukkoth with them. They create a lovely sukkah on the deck behind their home, complete with hanging fruit and vegetables. Cantor Marge conducts a short service, complete with lulav and etrog, and imparts some education on the holiday. Then we spend the rest of the evening sharing the delicious food we've contributed and shmoozing with our friends.
